I’m so excited writing about this, that I think I need to get on a plane, PRONTO! So welcome aboard- this is part 2 of your Summer Trends read that is all about “Airport Style”. I bet you’re almost travel ready and while you think of mimosas, sand and waters… please remember the journey is something to bear in mind too. Yes, that freezing plane and swollen feet. And while you must be comfy AF, don’t be sloppy! So, I thought I’ll break down the so-called “Airport Looks” depending on your mood or personality or whatever. Basically, it’s called “travel in style”. Okay then…. get your read on!
BOSS BABE: Yes, there is such a thing as Boss Babe. Basically, you’re a control freak and you relate to “woke up like this” kind of vibe. Essentially, you like to command: and that’s your style statement. And if you’re absolutely and truly “boss babe”, you are never looking out of place. Not.One.Bit.
AFFABLE ARTIST: Creative, Cool, Candid. If this is what describes you best- you’re artistic and affable. Hopefully 😉 Making a style statement is the easiest thing for you- because you are fun and it reflects in at least one element you have on. Non, mademoiselle?
THE CHILLER: And there is one- who is too cool to be schooled (in terms of styling). If you are every bit “the chiller”, you don’t overthink your outfits. You pull out what you are most comfortable in and work the heck out of it. It’s not just the clothes that speak your “chiller vibe”, it’s your attitude.
SOCIAL BUTTERFLY: As much as you love fashion, you are experimental to suit your social needs. From one look to another, from classy to sassy, you are every bit “butterfly”- pretty and poised.
Alright then… that’s a wrap. I could actually do tonnes of airport looks but you know what- to each his own. So choose your style and work it like no other! Safe Travels 🙂
Cannes has just wrapped up and I have indulged (yet again) in a virtual fashion feast. While there were some obvious hits, there were some that were hits that I believe you missed. Why? Because people are biased. And, I’m not. Mostly not. Okay sometimes… zip it ODD-CAT!
Before we dive into some of my fav looks from Cannes, let me tell you, there were some fiery reds and RED is what you must include in your wardrobe staple list. Maybe, I should do wardrobe staples soon. Ok, later on that. Now scroll below from Cannes Cans!
1.Bella Hadid G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S! I can’t emphasize enough on how Ah-Mazing she looked in this red Roberto Cavalli that was amplified with the simplicity of the hair, make-up & accessories. Simple, Strong, Sexy!
2.Aja Naomi King
There’s something about dusky skin and pastel colors that oozes oomph like no other. Naomi in this Zac Posen was an absolute delight. Sleek bun, classy jewels and showing décolletage without showing too much. Know what I mean? Love this look.
This Indian beauty has quite a few “stop and stare” looks but wowed me the most was her look in Dundas. Ivory gown with a BIG BLACK BOW, sleek ponytail, shimmer jewels and bold eyes! Less is more they say but when More is More (done right), it is nothing but TOP-NOTCH and goes down in history kind of a look. Yup. You heard that right.
Doing mirror and shimmer, jumpsuit and train…. Hello Glam Girl! You have nailed it in Rami Kadi. This is something I will wear in a heartbeat.
H.E.R look is not about what clothes she is wearing. It’s more about the attitude she is wearing. And if you know fashion well, you’ll most certainly know that 99% of the times (actually 100%) is about how you’re working a look, than just wearing a look. Having said that, not taking away credit for working the heck out of Giambattista Valli x H&M gown. Round sunglasses, accessorized center-parting and “go bold or go home” curly locks were totally drool-worthy.
If you’re bringing vintage to red-carpet, it better be impactful. And that’s exactly what Elle Fanning brought to Cannes. Her macramé hat was a “genius” addition to the Agent Provocateur shirt and Dior tulle skirt. The blonde wavy bob, red lips. Kiss! Kiss!
Coco Chanel’s famous quote: “A girl should be two things- classy & fabulous” is what Zhang Ziyi is channeling in this Givenchy Haute Couture. Every bit delicate, she has epitomized “classic” & “beauty” here.
Bringing beach to red-carpet with elegance. This Richard Quinn column dress with tulle train is not for your average taste. Again, attitude is key here and that’s what we get aplenty with Winnie. You go girl!
So this was my “short & sweet” round up of Cannes 2019. TBH, I did have a few more favs but they were Cannes Cannes per say. I love them and will perhaps include them in another fashion post. Okay bye! This has been hard to write with kids monkeying around in the background.
The only thing that keeps me happy in summer is Ice Cream & Retail Therapy (online preferably). A lot of people look forward to summer not because they love the sun (in India, not many people do) but they love summer vacays. So, I have decided to break this post into three parts- this is part 1 (duh!) where I talk about the trends that are worth your while and part 2 (coming soon) where I show you the much talked about “airport looks” and part 3 (coming later) how to travel light & right.
We don’t take heavy luggage; we bring it back- if you know what I mean.
Anyway, stop yapping and start scrolling!
#Trend Alert 1: Dress Over Pants
We all love ourselves some short summer dresses but what takes it a notch higher is- dressing over pants. It is so chic and cuts you some slack on “keep your legs together while you sit”. Let’s face it, dresses are feminine and sitting cross legs all day is not always possible. Lol! Rock ‘em over pants and when you’re going from day to night- you can lose ‘em pants. Erm… your call totally!
#Trend Alert 2: The Power of Pink
You really must be living under some rock, if you haven’t seen “pink” everywhere this season. Runway to reality is now easy peasy (lemon squeezy- ya whatever) because all you gotta do is- work some PINK! Honestly, I have never really loved pink as much but the more I see it (or wear it), the more it grows on me. It suits every single skin tone and every single body type. So get yourself a pair of pink pants or a pink top or pink chunky earrings or all of it. Barbie-ing all the way- heck yeah!
#Trend Alert 3: Boiler Suit
There’s something about jumpsuits (and now boiler suits) that is oh-so sexy without showing too much skin. Well, you may… if you’re pulling some “buttchella” from Coachella but I reckon, you put on simple yet solid Boiler Suit and give everyone #newwardrobe goals!
#Trend Alert 4: Slip Dresses
I have been hearing about slip dresses for last couple of years and TBH, the trend never hit home with me- until now. Reason? Now it looks more than a negligee and the variety is yummy! There are so many options available in slip dresses and while you work it sexy, you can work it comfy- by pairing it with sneakers. More inspiration? Create some, I say!
#Trend Alert 5: Animal Print
This one is evergreen to someone like me but if you’re not on board yet, you still have time. It is the literally the easiest way to look “high fashion” without spending a bomb. Just one thing- don’t overdo it if you can’t pull it off. Keep it simple (I rarely say that) by starting with one element- be it a top or the skirt or the pants or maybe on your bag. Take.it.slow.
#Trend Alert 6: Utility Pants
Cool Cat’s go to outfit! Utility pants & a nice tee (or top)! Now, you pair it with chunky sneakers or kitten heels- that depends on your mood. I love wearing Utility Pants with kitten heels because there’s something really attractive about pairing sporty with sexy.
#Trends Alert 7: Chunky Sneakers/ Dad Sneakers
You can love them or you can hate them but you definitely CAN’T ignore them. The first time when they hit “street fashion”, I was a bit on the fence because it looked great on some people and looked rather foolish on some people. But, the more I see it, the more I like it. And for me it’s like heels on steroids! Come on! You got heels, comfort, style and statement- all rolled into one. Gotta love this one. Non, madame?
#Trend Alert 8: Barely there sandals
Literally what it reads. Barely there. Again- you can’t go wrong with bare feet not being bare. Bare feet like we know are sensual and when they look bare without being bare- it’s that right foot-tease for the perfect look. What’s more? It goes with almost anything you wear because hello! it’s bare 😉 PS: You’ll see this as one of the Airport Looks! Yup. I’m catching a plane next time in my barely there’s.
#Trend Alert 9: Headbands
Bad hair days or not- fashion always to the rescue. Tie-up your hair when a bad hair day strikes is kind of passé! Now, you just wear headbands & look glam! So, it’s not just your immediate cure for bad hair day- basically now it’s every day hair thing. I mean- why colour those tresses when you can just wear colored bands with knots and puffs! Ok fine, go colour them if that’s your thing but do wear a headband, sometime! Okay? 🙂
Come back for more! Does 1st May work for you? Holla back.
Carrie Bradshaw (Sex & The City) once said “shopping is my cardio” and that became almost every girl’s motto in real life.
Yes, shopping on reel turned shopping in real. And here I am, bringing you April’s fav cardio. There are bunch of exhibitions and I reckon you plan your calendar better and also your budget. It has happened to me so many times that I go overboard shopping at one particular exhibition and then kind of feel guilty about going to the next one. Such shopping excursions made me realize that I need to mark my calendar and prioritize my shopping lists. Yes, I’m a shopaholic but not a dumb one. Or let’s say, I’m trying to feel less guilty 😉
3rd April 2019: Pop-Up by Jalsa (curated by Timsy Anand) at Hyatt Regency, Delhi (11am onwards) Their line-up looks very boho with young, new designers on board. More of light, Indian-wear kind of stuff, traditional jewels and a hint of western here & there.
10th Apr 2019: Runway Rising (curated by Ramola Bachhan) at The Ashoka Hotel, Delhi (11am onwards) If you’re attending any summer weddings, you can go to this one and be in an Indian-Wear Arcade- clothing, jewelry and other accessories.
10th Apr 2019: LMNOP at Hyatt Regency, Delhi (10am to 8pm) This one’s a children’s paradise. Cutest kids’ clothing, furniture, shoes, accessories, utensils etc. You name it, they got it. Not the one to miss if you’re always decorating your kids or kids’ room or kids’ kitchen.
13th Apr-14th Apr 2019: Lawn Suits Exhibition, IBAAS, K-22 Lajpat Nagar, Delhi (11am to 8pm) TBH, I have never been to one of these exhibitions but if you are the kinds who like suits (salwar kameez in various styles) in summer, you should hop by!
16th Apr 2019: The Stock Market (curated by Shubhra Jain) at Hyatt Regency, Delhi (11am to 8pm) If you like your designers especially when they come at incredible discounts, this one should be your must-visit. And FYI, their designer line-up is pretty fab, ranging from big names to not so big ones and ranging from Western Wear to Indian Wear to Fusion Wear. I reckon this one is better than most. Maybe because, I had found great buys for my bae last year!
24th Apr 2019: Yellow Blossom, The Ashoka Hotel, Delhi (11am to 7pm) Usually not held on a very large scale, this one is well curated. Offering good variety in clothing and accessories and stationery, it is worth a visit.
Phew! It’s quite a list just for April. My 2 cents: choose your exhibitions wisely 🙂
edition of filmfare awards concluded and I thought of talking about some of my
favs at the ceremony. But, I was disappointed coz there wasn’t much to write
home about. Rekha, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bacchan, Shilpa Shetty, Jacqueline
Fernandes gave it a miss and I was kind of looking forward to seeing their
looks. Nevertheless, let’s see who kind of made it to ODD-CAT’s books?
DEEPIKA PADUKONE She is a stunner anyway because good looks, style, personality, poise- she is everything! Rare but there. Wearing an Alberta Ferreti tux torso gown, she once again set ablaze the red carpet for me. Everyone is like- oh we expect more from her blah blah… but you know what, she was by far my fav!
ALIA BHATT Everyone’s sweetheart looked every bit delicious, delicate and dazzling! She wore a Ralph & Russo gown and it was more than perfect for her, bringing out a whole of sheer romance! I’m blowing kisses :* :*
ATHIYA SHETTY There’s something about the tan skin that glows effervescently in lime green & beige. This gown with pockets from Bibhu Mohapatra was spot on for her. She is totally working it with a low ponytail and diamonds! Shine on, girl!
CHITRANGADA SINGH She epitomizes Indian beauty for me. Wearing an off-white MaisonYeya, she was bold & beautiful and a little bit extra with those curls grazing her collar bones. So much love <3
VAANI KAPOOR A metallic jumpsuit with a cowl neckline and floor length jacket in the same metallic tone was a unique pick. Often spotted in Nikhil Thampi outfits, she is one of the few who pulls it off! A befitting muse, may I say?
MRUNAL THAKUR Smouldering! Dare I say, she beat some of the better actors in the industry with her outing this time around. Wearing a shimmery Karen Millen with slick hair & bold lip, she nailed it! A lesson in glamour- achievable & assertive!
DIANA PENTY Doll-like & dynamite. She made ruffles & pleats & volume look so darn easy yet glamorous! Side parted-ponytail, barely there sandals- she made this tricky Dolly J gown look very wearable & wow.
There were so many others from Bollywood but TBH from me- this is it! Deflating because the list is short. And you know what’s worse? Sonam Kapoor wasn’t on my best-dressed list L
Here’s hoping, we will get more from Bollywood 🙂 Happy Monday y’all!
Oh yes, it’s time to step up your game, style game! Summer is upon us and amp-ing up without breaking into a sweat is no mean feat. So, here’s your accessory for the season that will give you that unique edge. Remember the rule: own it like you mean it. Styling is a lot about attitude so work that “queen bee” swag. And yes, headpieces work better with western wear! See for yourself.
LOOK 1 The first look I’m wearing a headpiece with a western outfit. It’s more like a day or sundowner kind of look. If this headpiece is a bit much for you, get a daintier one. But for me, bigger the better.
LOOK 2 The second look is edgier because we have given Mohawk a new avatar. It could have been worn both horizontally and vertically. I prefer the Mohawk style because it’s “out there” and edgy.
LOOK 3 The third look is “too glam to give a damn”! Almost like crowning glory and I reckon- it takes a lot to carry it off. The first time I wore it, I got many stares (not necessarily in a good way) but you know what- I was “too glam to give a damn” 😉
LOOK 4 Turbans are now finding its ground in the fashion scene. It’s the easiest way to turn around blah into blow-up! I work ‘em turbans quite a bit now and think these are kind of foolproof.
LOOK 5 This one is simple yet stylish. A casual dress, sneakers & turban. When street style is achievable and not redundant, turban to the rescue!
Fringes are fun! Simply, because it creates a Happy Mood & great dance moves. And there are multiple ways you can wear them. Long, short, colourful or not. It can be a part of your western look, traditional look or fusion look. It’s versatile and looks good on EVERYONE. So shall we get them swinging?
Look 1: Colorful “fringe” sweatshirt I wore it with high-waist pants in black because I wanted the colors of the fringes to pop. A top-knot and kitten heels completed the look. Easy breezy!
Look 2: Fringe Pants
The pants have fringes on its sides so I paired it with a slightly shimmery top and knotted it. Gold oxfords (matching my top) and a top-knot (again) made for a super comfy #ootn. Dancing all night long with no sore feet (lower the heel, less tired you feel).
Look 3: Fringe Jacket
Wearing a sleeveless gold-fringed jacket. This one is fringe heavy so I’m glad this was sleeves-free! Paired them with balloon pants and again tiny heels. Kept hair in a sleek low ponytail and let the jacket shine! Works as a western look as well as fusion.
Some pro tips for Fun Fringing:
Try and keep fringes limited to one item of the whole look. It could be on your clothing, or your bag, or any one accessory.
Let fringes be the highlight of your look. If you really want to work those fringes, it’s best to avoid anything over-powering in your outfit.
Sleek hairdos are safe. When sporting fringes, it helps keeping your hair simple- a top-knot or sleek ponytail!
Have fun with fringes!
Okay then, enjoy your fringes and bust some killer dance moves. Have a fun night y’all!
Bonjour! C’est la post du Fashion Week parce que je l’aime. Ah non! This is not a French post but a post on Paris Fashion Week. I got a bit carried away because my heart and soul is has virtually visited Paris Fashion Week and I can’t live à New Delhi any more. Also, I wanted to show off (or not) my French language skills. Lol!
Moving on… Let me tell you this post will require a book publishing because there’s so so so much I want to write about. But, I’m cutting it shorter (heart sinks) because no one has the patience to scroll and love like I do! Or wait, instead of capturing designer wise, let me write about the trends to watch our for this fall. How about that?
Trend #1- Monochrome: I love this trend because it’s timeless and easy to work. And when designers like Jacquemus and Elie Saab are giving lessons, you’ve got to listen. FYI- Jacquemus is in my #crushyou category for more reasons than one.
Elie Saab FW’19
Trend #2- Box Checks: A timeless classic, thanks to the evergreen LVMH. Coming strong in various colour combinations, this one is looking chic and edgy at the same time. Get your checks on!
Off White FW’19
Trend #3- Knee-Grazing Pants: Knee-length or slightly below or slightly above, this one is not for everyone. However, if you can work this, you are going from day to night or high-street to high-fashion in no time. Give it a go! Pair with tucked in or semi-tucked in shirts with block heels and wear a cool hat. A total winner in ODD-CAT’s books.
Miu Miu FW’19
Haider Ackermann FW’19
Trend #4- Overlays: Reminiscent of the Victorian era, overlays are for everyone. There are so many ways to work this trend- over dresses, over jeans, over everything you own. Everyday overlays are fab; think jeans, tee and a long overlay dress! You’ll never a dull moment with this one.
Elie Saab FW’19
Trend #5- Belted: A huge comeback this one! Again, you need to know your body type to make this one shine. If you’re a plus size, I’d reckon you stick to skinny belts (or even chain mails), if you’re an hourglass, any belt works for you accentuating a narrow waist and if you’re let’s say skinny b**** (haha), the bigger, the better! Give us a shout, if you want help with this.
Trend #6- “Cape” town: So we have all worn capes but this fall, the longer the better is the case. And I think it’s very wearable and very cool. Think long capes, skinny jeans (or leggings) and thigh-high boots. Who said only superheroes came with capes? All our super-women can rock them too.
Elie Saab FW’19
Miu Miu FW’19
Trend #7- Utility Pants: When comfort and style go hand-in-hand, it is everyone’s fav. And I’m certain, most of you will be leaning towards this one. Again, it works for most body types. You can wear it with a tee or a blouse or a jumper or a cropped jacket. And you can work it as brunch look or girls night out look or even a party look. I recently pulled this one for a party look and I had compliments falling in left, right, center! So get one, pronto!
Stella McCartney FW’19
Trend #8- Boiler Suit: If jumpsuits, were your thing, then boiler suit is a friendlier cousin to that one. No hassles coming in and out of this one, sister. Ready, set, suit!
Off White FW’19
Trend #9- Tux so luxe: ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!! I needn’t say more and leave you to it. But let me tell you this- when you rock one, you’ll be dialing up hot & chic 100 notches, atleast. Take my word for it and get your glam on!
Alexander McQueen FW’19
Trend #10- Cool Hatter: Hats, hats and more hats this fall. The best accessory, I would say. No bad hair days, no blow-dries, no hair dos! Just put the hat on and you’re all set. My quick-tip: add the turban to this hat season.
Louis Vuitton FW’19
Trend #11- “Bow”ler: Be a bow-ler and give feminism a new twist. Bows have always been the girly girl thing, but you know what, it always bring the cool cat vibe. So wear the bow even on-the-go. See how!
Comme Des Garcons FW’19
Elie Saab FW’19
Trend #12- Oversized: Again, this one has been around for a while and by now you know how to make it work. A little tip though: oversized doesn’t mean clumsy frumpy. While, it’s great to hide ‘em flaws, do it in style and not like it’s not your size. Inspiration enclosed 🙂
Trend #13- Layering: So bloggers all over the world and are telling us that how layering helps them stand out in the crowd. But, this can go terribly wrong, if you haven’t had a lesson or two in this. And sadly though, it’s not for everyone!
Trend #14: Power of Pink: It’s the colour, every fashionista is swearing by and truly there’s a unique power of pink. Gradutated from Barbie dolls to power haul! I say- wear ‘em pink y’all.
Phew! That was the round-up on trends from Paris Fashion Week. And TBH, there’s so much more. I have more favs, in terms of my fav looks, fav designers, etc… but let’s just wrap here. Holler me, if you need more styling advice.
Like I said, in my previous post- I’m lovin’ the Indian hip-hop sub-culture. What was earlier just international with hot women and booze and big cars,#gullyboy has broken all perceptions and given hip-hop scene a different meaning. I dig the style and hence thought of doing an Odd-Cat spin on it. Result? See for yourself!
Metallics!- This trend has been there for a while now and mostly people don’t know how to incorporate metallic in their wardrobe without making it look “in your face”! I love OTT personally but for anyone who doesn’t, my pro-tip- “pair your metallic piece with something totally understated”– like basic pants and tee or in this case- ripped shorts & crop top. Whatever floats your boat 😉
Sweatshirt Cool! I’m sure y’all have a few sweatshirts in your closet. But, you can totally work your way up and own a sweatshirt dress. Trust me- it’s super comfy and yet full of swag. You don’t need anything to dress it up, the dress itself and just good pair of shoes is all it takes- to take it from nowhere to everywhere.
Track Pants on Point! Comfort and style is mostly on everyone’s mind. And there can’t be a better way to do it – a cool pair of boots/ heels and some jewellery to add some spunk! You’re ready in 5 mins, I promise! Not feeling the heels? Never mind! Pair your track pants with a cropped sweatshirt and chunky sneakers. This is doable, right? Great! Now, you’re definitely ready in 5′
Denim on Denim! Denims are great addition to any trend. They can be plastered onto any trend, literally! But denim on denim, is a bit tricky. What I reckon- play with lengths and to their strengths. If you’re wearing flared jeans, team it with cropped denim jacket, if you’re wearing denim shorts, pair it with a long denim jacket. If you’re wearing skinny jeans, pair it with denim bustier or a denim shirt in a different shade. There’s so much you can do!
Vinyl! TBH, this is one trend that most people fail to work. Nothing wrong because this one’s hard. So if you can’t work it, don’t bother! But let’s just say you love the trend and are willing to give it a shot. My 2 cents? Get a vinyl accessory! A bag, pair of shoes or just the belt. Play it safe. Now, assuming that you’re an ODD-CAT and have to own “vinyl”! Rules are simple- choose only 1 garment in vinyl. You don’t want to look like a vinyl bandage. So pair the vinyl pants, with something as basic as a white tee! Or if it’s a vinyl top, pair it with something as basic as simple black pants and classic sandals.
What’s more? Just browse through our #gullyboy shoot!
With everyone’s new anthem being #apnatimeaayega, we thought we must jump on this hip-hop bandwagon and show y’all how we are lovin’ this whole hip-hop scene in India!
I am not so happy to admit that I felt I was living under some rock. I had no clue that rap/ hip-hop is some kind of an underground culture in our country. It’s quite big and quite fashionably on-point. The outtake is- I’m learning something new. Yay! My knowledge was kind of limited to Badshah & Diljit Dosanjh thanks to mainstream Bollywood. And another revelation came about when I tuned into #koffeewithkaran and was really blown away with the swag the 2 Indian pop-artists (?) had.
Moving on… I decided to uncover some of our desi style icons and I gotta declare- they are totally workin’ it.
Meet #1 Vivian aka D I V I N E This rapper from Mumbai has rapped his way into Bollywood, with #gullyboy. From rapping on the streets of Mumbai to the hearts of the country, his journey has nothing been short of ah-mazing! The character MC Sher in Gully Boy is inspired from his life. What a character! On screen & off-screen. What I dig about his style? His honesty that comes through- “I am what I am” attitude bundled with a whole lotta BOLDNESS.
Meet #2 NaezythebaA (Naved Shaikh) When reality is cruel and the only choice you have is to rise UP! Meet this fella from the gullies of Mumbai where crimes were common and knowledge (let’s say- education) was uncommon. He fought his way out of it all and made a name for himself, rapping in his very own mother tongue; never ashamed of how crude it could sound! (Ouch! Spoken like a Delhiite, lol!)
What I dig about his style? Mostly, he is “HAT-ing” it. Wearing a “hat”, duh! And I gotta say, he works it each time.
Meet #3 Raftaar (lesser known as Dilin Nair) Oh, I’m sure you know this one! He is famous not just for his rap but also for busting some incredible dance moves. He might be a Malyali but his vibe is very Punjabi! He often speaks of- being united (rising above cast and culture) and embracing everything he is born with! His music- I love and his style- two thumbs up!
Meet #4 Dopeadelicz The band of Fantastic Four, their journey was kind of REVERSE. In the sense- they started American style and landed back in everything Indian style. Hindi, Tamil, Malyalam, Marathi- they rap it all! Indie-cool, eh?Talking about style, what (or who) stands out? Their lead rapper- Tony Sebastian (aka stony_psyko). Why, you ask? Look at his picture below. Right outta Snoop Dogg’s music video?! Okay, whatever! I like it!
Meet #5 Raja Kumari She is UNIQUE. She is BRILLIANT. She is everything INDIAN. Born and raised in America but totally Indian at heart. She moved back to her roots because she felt the connect and wanted to give back, as she once said. Having worked with big names in US- Gwen Stefani, Iggy Azalea, Dirty South, Fallout Boy (to name a few), she has toured the world (almost) and is now a FORCE to be reckoned with! Achievements are plenty (already) and her music rules the Hip-Hop scene (kind of)! Her style? You CAN’T miss her. She is every bit ODD-CAT, famously called the Royalty of Hip-Hop. Lol!
Meet #6 Slow Cheetah (aka Chaitanya Sharma) Another one from Mumbai, this one is a dapper dude! Acting, rapping- he has done it all. Jack of many but master of one is how he can be described. Not holding back, he is a promising rapper. Style wise? Let me start by saying, he recently walked the ramp at LFW and is very “guy next door”.
Meet #7 Dee MC (originally Deepa Unnikrishnan) I have often heard of passion turning into “dream come true” experience. And, this “everything cool creature” has lived it. From writing poetry in school to writing rap for a living, I love how she breaks all gender stereotypes. Standing her ground on sticking to meaningful lyrics, she is one of a kind. And her style? I’ll just say- she is getting some spunk into junk!
Meet #8 Brodha V (not known as Vighnesh Shivanand, anymore) This Bengaluru Boy’s rap is fusion at its best. He raps in English & Carnatic with beats from Hip-Hop fused with Indian classical. He created a niche from himself and music in movies hasn’t been easy. But who says- success comes easy?! His style? Fuss-free! Hoodies, sneakers and a crooked kinda smile.
Meet #9 Shah Rule Privileged or not, talent speaks for itself. This is the case with this flamboyant rapper. Born in HongKong, raised in Moscow, Famous (now) in India, he is channeling the vibe of “Crazy Rich Indians” (there’s nothing wrong in that, btw). He is a global artist, FYI and has received adulation globally. You have to hear his music to understand what I’m really saying here. Style? Hat & Bold!
Meet #10 PrabhDeep This one hails from Delhi and hence the brashness, I believe! That’s how Delhi rolls, you see. A rough (kinda) childhood brings that punch of rebel & revenge attitude and the fact that he raps in Punjabi, makes him very hardcore! His style- Cool sikh, I’d say!
I’m submerged! And this what I have from #gullygang right now. What’s next? Odd-cat’s version of Gully Boy. Or should I say Gully-Cat? Nah. Send in your thoughts… gully or not!
